In addition, Valeni cares about the environment. It grows tourism while blending it nicely with nature. This makes Valeni a great example of sustainable development.

    How to Get to Valeni

Valeni is a charming rural village in Moldova, offering a peaceful escape with its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Getting there will require some planning, but multiple options can make the journey convenient and enjoyable, depending on where you're traveling from and your preferred mode of transport.

    Plane

The nearest major airport is Chisinau International Airport. From there, it's recommended to rent a car or take a bus to Valeni. For international visitors, this is the most practical starting point to begin their journey to the village.

    Train

While Valeni itself doesn't have a train station, nearby Cahul can be reached by train from Chisinau. From Cahul, you can continue to Valeni by bus or taxi. This method allows you to experience Moldova's scenic rail routes before completing the journey by road.

    Minibus

Minibuses connect Valeni to nearby towns and cities. From Chisinau, you can catch a bus heading towards Valeni or Giurgiulești, or to Cahul with a transfer to a local bus that stops in Valeni. This option is budget-friendly, but it will involve longer travel times and changes. Expect the route to take 4-5 hours. The website here can be used to check the daily schedules but do not buy your tickets online because sometimes they're not accepted. Wait until you arrive at the bus station. For traveling to Valeni, you will need to go to Gara de Sud.

    Car

The most direct way to reach Valeni is by car. Driving from major Moldovan cities like Chisinau takes about two to three hours, depending on the route. Renting a car provides flexibility, allowing you to explore the surrounding countryside along the way so you don't have to worry about organizing other transportation to get around. Plus, it is a lot quicker to travel by car to Valeni than bus or train.

    Taxi

If convenience is a priority, booking a taxi or private transfer from a major city like Chisinau directly to Valeni can be arranged. Though more expensive, this door-to-door service ensures a comfortable and hassle-free trip. Do not try to order through taxi apps such as YandexGo can't travel beyond their main cities of operation.

When I traveled to Valeni, one time I used the mashrutka and the other time was via car. I highly recommend the car over the bus. The bus took 5 hours to get to Valeni from Chisinau and included a long stop in Cahul. By the time we reached Valeni, we were super tired. Then to get back to Chisinau by bus, we had to ask our host for the schedule and she called the driver in advance to let them know that we would be waiting on the side of the road for them so they would stop. It's more complicated especially if you don't speak Russian or Romanian. Therefore, the car was much easier, quicker, and more comfortable so if you have the option to choose I recommend the car.

For efficient route planning, cost evaluation, and consideration of various transportation methods, I often rely on Rome2rio. This invaluable tool provides comprehensive information, offering insights into possible route combinations and suggestions for strategic stops along the way, ensuring a tailored and well-informed travel experience. Link to Rome2rio

Where to Stay in Valeni, Moldova

Valeni offers a range of accommodation options that provide a comfortable stay and a genuine experience of Moldovan rural life. The city is most known for its' eco-villages which offer a more immersive farm stay. However, you can find lodging that caters to various preferences and budgets.

    Hotels

There's only one hotel in the region if you're interested in staying in hotels. If you are visiting by car, you also have the option to stay in Cahul or Comrat which have more hotel options. However, I recommend taking advantage of the unique eco-village experiences below for a more authentic experience.

    Guesthouses/Eco-Villages

Valeni features several traditional guesthouses that provide a homely atmosphere with authentic Moldovan hospitality. These accommodations often include homemade meals and local cultural experiences, giving visitors a closer connection to the community. Some local families even offer farm stays, allowing guests to engage in rural activities like gardening or cooking traditional dishes. Usually, these hosts make an effort to entertain and interact with the guests, even helping arrange your itinerary. Some will contact you in advance to plan while others can organize your itinerary upon arrival.

When I visited Valeni, both times I stayed with Vera at La Gura Cuptorului. The accommodation is very comfortable with a new extension completed in the summer of 2024. Additionally, The Bread Museum is on the premises. Vera provided delicious breakfasts and dinners and was very helpful in planning our itinerary. I highly recommend this eco-village!

    Getting Around Valeni, Moldova

    Car

If you prefer more convenience or are traveling from nearby towns, using a car provides flexibility for exploring Valeni and its surroundings. It allows you to visit attractions in the wider region and access places that may be difficult to reach by other means. If you're renting, you will need to rent from Chisinau and drive to Valeni because there are no other rental agencies in the area.

    Bus/Mashrutka

Differing from other cities in Moldova, Valeni does not have a local bus to take people around the villages. Instead, they utilize the main bus routes that go between Chisinau and cities in the south. This schedule isn't posted anywhere so you will need to ask your host or a local for the information. Once on the bus, you will need to pay the driver directly.

    Bike

Valeni's small size and rural landscape make cycling a practical and enjoyable way to get around. Rent a bike and ride along the quiet roads and scenic paths, discovering the village and its surrounding countryside at your own pace.

    Taxi

Uber and Lyft are not available in Moldova.  You will need to ask a local for the local taxi number, but unless you know Russian or Romanian you will need assistance in ordering the taxi. In Valeni, there are not many official taxi services in the area so most likely the taxi will come from the closest bigger city such as Cahul or Comrat for Valeni.

    Walking

Exploring Valeni on foot is an excellent way to experience the village's charm. You can wander through the picturesque streets, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, and discover hidden spots that are unique to this quaint area. However, if you're planing on traveling between Slobazia Mare and Valeni you will need to use a different method of transportation because they're far apart.
