    How to Get to Balti

Balti, the second-largest city in Moldova, is accessible via various modes of transportation. Whether traveling from within the country or abroad, visitors can choose between road, rail, or air travel to reach this historic city. Here’s a guide on the best ways to get to Balti.

    Plane

The nearest major airport is Chisinau International Airport, located about 150 km from Balti. From there, you can travel by car, taxi, or bus. There are care hire services available for direct transport to Balti but they must be reserved in advance.

    Train

Moldova's railway network connects Balti with other major cities, including Chisinau. The train journey provides a scenic view of Moldova’s countryside and is an affordable travel option. Regular services run between Chisinau and Balti, taking around 3 to 4 hours, depending on the train. You will need to take a taxi, bus, trolleybus, or car from the airport to the train station.

    Minibus

Minibusses connect Balti to Chisinau and other towns across Moldova. These buses depart frequently from the capital and provide a direct route to Balti's city center. This is a budget-friendly option with a typical travel time of approximately 2 to 3 hours. The website here can be used to check the daily schedules but do not buy your tickets online because sometimes they're not accepted. Wait until you arrive at the bus station. For traveling to Baltil, you will need to go to Gara de Nord.

    Car

Driving to Balti is another practical option, especially for travelers who prefer a flexible schedule. The main road between Chisinau and Balti (E583) is well-maintained, making it a straightforward drive. Car rentals are available at Chisinau Airport for those wishing to explore the region on their own. As mentioned above, car transfer services to Balti are available but need to be reserved in advance.

    Taxi

For a more comfortable and private journey, a taxi ride from Chisinau to Balti is an option. While more expensive than buses or trains, taxis offer the convenience of door-to-door service and can be booked directly at the airport or in the city. The ride typically takes around 2 hours. However, you will need to confirm with the company that they can drive between cities because usually, cars ordered through taxi apps such as YandexGo can't travel beyond their main cities of operation.

Whenever I visited Balti, it was usually a quick commute from Chisinau taking 2 hours. However, it depends on the driver and the number of stops that have to be made for people getting on and off the bus.  I highly recommend getting to the bus station at least 30 minutes in advance before the departure time you desire because the tickets will sell out and you don't want to have to stand for the entire ride.
