Part of traveling is souvenir shopping to share your adventure with family and friends. Consider skipping the tourist shops selling mass-produced knick knacks and opt for authentic Estonian handicrafts or gifts made by local artisans and local businesses. My most favorite souvenirs were purchased at surprise pop-up shops and markets I stumbled upon while walking around cities.Read below to find out my top 10 authentic Estonian souvenirs to buy in Estonia.

    Juniper Wood Products

Popular in the Baltics, Juniper is a very sustainable wood that Estonians make into a variety of kitchen utensils and cookware such as cutting boards, spatulas, etc. They can be used in the kitchen or for decoration purposes. They also are very light weight when packing your suitcases.

    Knitwear

Estonia is a very cold country during the winter months, so knitwear is a popular gift amongst locals and tourists. The homemade products will cost more than the factory-produced ones, but are worth the price since the homemade sweaters, hats, gloves, etc. are better quality and usually last longer.

    Viking Dolls

These viking figurines come in a variety of designs and colors. You can purchase them in souvenir shops or at Christmas markets. The ones produced at the local markets are often homemade and unique so that not one looks the exact same.

    Vana Tallinn

A traditional Estonian liquor consisting of rum, vanilla, citrus, and a combination of herbs and spices. It is very popular during the Christmas season, being sold in gløgg or hot chocolate. This is a tasty treat to bring back to friends and co-workers.

    Amber Jewelry

Amber, native to the Baltics, is an authentic Estonian gift. It forms from fossilized pine sap from ancient Baltic forests, giving it its unique characteristics. Many believe this stone possesses healing properties and can prevent sickness. This became one of my favorite gifts during my visit to the Baltics.

    Marzipan

A traditional Estonian sweet made from almonds and powdered sugar. Originally intended as a medicine, pharmacies produced it. Now, it’s one of Estonia’s oldest treats, often molded into colorful shapes like Christmas trees. There’s even a marzipan museum!

    Kalev Chocolate

Are you noticing a pattern? Estonians really love, and are really proud, of their sweets! This chocolate dates back to 1806 with their best selling product of white chocolate and blueberries. You can even attend a workshop to learn how to make their famous chocolate or marzipan to bring home.

    Traditional Estonian Clothing

Bring back authentic linen clothing that displays the traditional Estonian geometric and floral patterns. You can choose from traditional Estonian male shirts, pants, or hats, or female dresses, blouses, and skirts.

    Cloudberry Jam

Jam made from… well you guessed it… cloudberries, which are a very sharp-tasting fruit local to Estonia. This product isn’t widely produced, so you’ll have to visit Balti Jaam (Baltic Station) market and explore the local fruit stands to buy it.

    JOIK Beauty Products

An Estonian beauty company producing high quality body creams, fragrances, bath salts, facial cleansers, and more! Another bonus… products are organic certified and free of animal testing. Get ready for relaxation.
