Getting to Paris, France: Transportation Options and Travel Tips
Getting to Paris is quite straightforward as it is a major international hub. The city is served by two major airports: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Orly Airport (ORY). These airports receive flights from numerous destinations worldwide. Upon arrival, you can easily access the city center by taking the efficient and convenient public transportation, such as the RER train from the airports to the city.
Alternatively, high-speed trains (TGV) connect Paris to other major cities within France and neighboring countries, making it a convenient option if you're traveling from nearby regions. With its well-connected transportation network and central location in Europe, reaching Paris is a seamless and accessible journey for travelers from all corners of the world.

The efficient and budget-friendly Paris metro system became my preferred mode of travel during my stay, providing easy access to key tourist spots indicated on the maps.

What to Do in Paris, France?
Notre Dame
Completed in 1345, this iconic gothic piece of France is a step back into time. Take photos of the beautiful architecture and stained glass while reading about the history of the cathedral. Please note that the cathedral is still undergoing rebuilding and restoration from the 2019 fire.
Louvre
The home to Da Vinci’s famous ‘Mona Lisa’ and many other amazing pieces of art from oil paintings to sculptures. The Louvre has it all! Be sure to check out the Louvre’s website for tickets and to purchase a guided tour.
Catacombs
Travel below the streets of Paris and into the former tunnels of stone mines, that are now home to more than 6 million people’s skeletons. Tour the darker history of France and learn about the major health problems in the late 18th century, which resulted in the development of the catacombs.
Versaille
Named as a World Heritage Site for 40 years, this impressive structure has 2,300 rooms and covers 63,154 square meters of property. Visit Versaille and learn about one of the greatest achievements in French 17th century art and walk the famous ballroom of mirrors.
Arc de Triomphe
Located on the Champs d’Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe is a tribute to the victories of the French Army. Completed in 1836, take pictures of the beautiful stone work and climb to the top for great views of the Champs d’Elysees. Please note, there is an entrance to the Arc de Triomphe from the metro underground. The traffic tends to be busy throughout the day, making it dangerous to cross the street.
Loire Valley
Visit and tour castles from the 15th to 17th centuries, filled with impressive art and architecture. Be sure to go to Château de Chambord which is the biggest castle in the region.
Eiffel Tower
The famous Eiffel Tower is 324 meters tall and can be seen from various points throughout Paris. Tickets are available for purchase to go to the top and grab a spectacular view of Paris. Open early in the morning and into the late evening, see Paris come to life from the top and watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle.
Champs d'Elysees
Filled with smaller boutiques and the famous big name designers, the Champs d’Elysees is the Time Square of France. Shop for Parisian fashion and taste wonderful food along the way.

Pantheon
Similar to Rome, Paris has its own pantheon in the Latin Quarter. Learn about its unique history, as the final resting place for many Parisian writers, scientists, etc.

The birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. Known as the Red Light District of Paris, Moulin Rouge offers cabaret show and music entertainment when the sun goes down. Please note that since this is a known tourist attraction, this is not one of the safest areas in Paris.
Seine
Take a boat ride down the famous river of Paris for a unique view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower. Or walk along the river and watch the locals go about their daily lives.
Mont Saint Michel
The famous Abbey church on an island surrounded by the tide. Travel back to the 8th century and learn about the elaborate history of this unique island.
Sacre Coeur
Completed in 1919, this basilica is a sight to see from the inside and the outside. Learn about the history of the basilica’s design and formation throughout World War I.
