What to Expect in Scotland
Languages
There are three official languages in Scotland: English, the majority language unless you travel into more rural areas of Scotland where you are more likely to encounter the other two: Scots, and Scottish-Gaelic.
Currency
The official currency is the British Pound Sterling (GBP).
Outlets
Type G.
Transportation
Taxis, buses, trains, ferries, trams, cars, bikes, and walking are all available to help you get around the cities in Scotland and in between different cities.
Safety
As a solo female traveler, I experienced no problems going around the city and to tourist attractions by myself. The locals and other travelers are very friendly and helpful with providing tips and guidance. Additionally, the streets and sidewalks are well lit with people walking on them and going into pubs late into the evenings. As always, exercise caution while traveling solo and participate in nightlife with a group of people to minimize encountering unsafe situations.
My Favorite Memories
Petting and feeding a Highland Cow during a day trip to the Highlands!
Embarking on the hike up to Arthur’s Seat where I was able to get the best 360 degree aerial view of Edinburgh.
Tracing J.K. Rowling’s steps and visiting the locations for her inspiration to write the famous series, Harry Potter.
