Getting to Soroca, Moldova: Transportation Options and Travel Tips
When planning your visit to Soroca, start by arriving in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova. From any location in Chișinău, make your way to Gara de Nord (North Bus Station). If you're coming from the airport, convenient transportation options include bus mini-bus 165 or trolleybus 30 to the city center. Once in the city center, take trolleybus 9 or the Gara de Nord minibus directly to the North Bus Station. Please note that the current fare for both minibus and trolley bus rides is 6 Moldovan lei. If you're not arriving from the airport, skip the airport-specific instructions and follow the remaining directions.
Alternatively, utilize Google Maps and select the bus icon to view the recommended trolleybus route from your current location to the North Bus Station. Keep in mind that Google Maps does not display minibus routes. If you prefer not to rely on public transportation, taxi services such as YandexGo are available for a convenient ride to the North Bus Station or directly to Soroca (more information about taxis will be provided below).
Upon reaching the Bus Station, proceed to the Casa Billet (Ticket House) to purchase your bus ticket to Soroca. Depending on the schedule, the Ticket House may guide you to mashrutkas (shared taxis) with Soroca listed on their sign or advise you to board one that passes through Soroca along the route. For the marshrutka timetables, visit the official Autogara website here. If you’re not flying into Chișinău, or would like more assurance for your travel route, consider checking on Rome2rio, to compare travel methods and prices.

Bike
Locals frequently use bikes for commuting in Soroca, although there are no designated bike lanes and roads may not always be paved. When renting a bike, prioritize safety by wearing a helmet and remain highly attentive to your surroundings, as vehicles may not yield to cyclists.
Taxi
Please note that popular taxi services like Uber and Lyft are not available in Moldova. Instead, you can call the local taxi number or use the iTaxi or YandexGo apps. Keep in mind that these apps primarily operate in the capital city, and availability in Soroca may be limited. The local taxi number for Soroca is +373 0230 33 333, but having some knowledge of Romanian or Russian or using a translator is recommended. Flagging down taxis on the road is also an option. Ensure you request a price estimate before entering the cab and be cautious of unmarked cars posing as taxis. Opt for marked taxis affiliated with reputable taxi companies to prioritize your safety, particularly if you're a foreigner and unfamiliar with the local languages.
Walking
Exploring Soroca on foot is highly recommended, as the city is relatively small with sidewalks available throughout. Walking is a common mode of transportation for locals, so you'll find yourself in good company. It's worth noting that in Moldova, people often walk long distances, including major roads between cities and municipalities. However, female travelers should remain vigilant while walking in Soroca. Although I visited during daylight hours, I experienced instances of harassment from men and encountered multiple cars approaching me within a short period. If you're a female traveler, I suggest considering group travel for added safety.
